Anniversary Trip

For the first time in over 4 years, K and I were able to get away on a little vacation together. It was our 10th anniversary and thanks to my wonderful friends, Kelly and Debbie and our nurse, Claudine, we were able to leave the kids and go to Louisiana for 4 days. Kelly came and stayed at our house and we left Big C and N with her. She came over several days and nights in advance to learn how to take care of N and practice doing all the medical things that have to be done for him. Little C stayed at Debbie's house and had a fun time with her kids. It was seriously the best anniversary gift we've ever received and I will forever be grateful to those dear friends for doing this for us.

Our trip was awesome!! We remembered why we like each other and why we got married and we were able to forget about all of life's stresses and talk about other things besides bills and kids! We did things on our schedule, we slept in and slept all night without the nightly interruptions we usually get from N's machine or something else, and we just enjoyed being together.

We spent the first day at the Kemah Boardwalk. We went on "The Beast" which is a speed boat ride out into the gulf. They said we would get wet on the ride and we thought we'd probably get a little spray or something. They weren't kidding! We got drenched and because it was so humid, our clothes never dried! From there we drove to a little town outside of Baton Rouge and stayed at an old southern plantation bed and breakfast. It was beautiful.and the grounds were very pretty as welland it was right on the Mississippi River. It was very hot and humid, we were sweating just standing outside, but it was quiet and peaceful and we had a great time.Next we went into New Orleans. We stayed in the French Quarter which is very old and not very nice and smells like trash, but it was an experience and we enjoyed it. We went on a Steamboat River tour of New Orleans on one of the original steam paddle boats that traveled the Mississippi. We learned a lot about the history of New Orleans and saw lots of historical sites including the St. Louis Cathedral that is in Jackson Square.
After the Riverboat tour we walked around the French Quarter and actually went to Jackson Square
We ate dinner on Bourbon Street
and ate beignets at Cafe Du Monde
and went on a Haunted History Tour of the French Quarter. I was a little skeptical about it at first since the tour began at Rev. Zombie's Voodoo Shop but it turned out to be very entertaining and fun.
After the tour we went back to our hotel since New Orleans turns into a cesspool of drunks and nude bars at night. I was definitely glad we didn't have the kids with us!!

By the end, we didn't want to come home but all vacations have to come to an end and like I said before, we are so grateful to our friends for making this trip possible. Here's to another 10 years!!!
